Recycling Bus

What is the Suffolk Recycling Bus?

The Recycling Bus is a purpose built roving classroom/exhibition stand, which is available to help your community with recycling projects or to increase environmental awareness. It is a FREE resource available to community groups and other organisations in Suffolk. The bus is accompanied by Suffolk County Council’s Recycling Officer, on hand throughout your event to provide information and advice on a wide range of recycling and waste issues. Whether you are starting a new recycling scheme, fundraising or want to get the recycling message across, the bus is an eye-catching centrepiece in any location.

  • The Recycling Bus can be used by community groups:
  • As a mobile display
  • To promote composting and the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
  • As an information point at markets and fetes
  • It can provide a variety of fun activities at events, which appeal to both children and adults.

Bus Dimensions and Practicalities of Driving on Site

The Recycling Bus measures 8m long, 2.5m wide and 3.2m high, it is roughly the same size as a library bus or a fire engine. Please be aware that overhanging trees can be a problem. Additionally the ground surface should be even and firm - slopes, kerbs and cambers can cause scrapes underneath! What we need to know from you:

  • If there is access to a normal 3 pin, 13-amp socket for the bus’ electrical supply? The extension leads are 20 metres long. Through a window is fine, but please consider the tripping hazard that a trailing cable presents.
  • The timing of and type of event
  • The approximate number of people
  • Will bus visitors be at risk when entering or leaving the bus (e.g. Is there a busy road/slippery surface)?
  • Passenger access - please arrange with the bus manager if you require any assistance (the bus can use step access with handrails and can offer a hydraulic wheelchair lift for those users who are unable to use steps)
