Suffolk County Council’s Schools Waste Education Officer runs competitions designed to encourage creativity and engage pupils in thinking about many aspects of recycling and waste minimisation.
2010 - WASTE CHALLENGE. DESIGNS ON BAGS COMPETITION - 'GET COMPOSTING'
It's that time of year again! Time for you to get your thinking caps on and come up with fantastic and original designs that could end up being printed onto reuseable cotton bags.
This years theme is 'Get Composting' which gives you lots of scope to really get creative!

2010 - Pancake Day Drawing Competition.
Download this document to enter the competition. Print it and hand to all pupils to complete. We will accept 1 entry per pupil, up to the 26th of Feb 2010.

2009 - WASTE CHALLENGE. DESIGNS ON BAGS COMPETITION 'LOVE FOOD HATE WASTE'
Get your limited edition re-useable shopping bag!
These bags were designed by pupils from Suffolk schools as part of the Waste Challenge Competion.
This year’s Waste Challenge - Designs on Bags Competition focused on the national Love Food Hate Waste campaign. Pupils were challenged to come up with original and imaginative designs to be printed onto cloth bags in order to promote this message.
The competition was open to all school children in Suffolk, with four categories for judging - Key Stages 1, 2, 3 & 4.
Well done to this year’s winners!

The 4 winning designs have been printed onto reusable cotton shopping bags and are available to purchase from main libraries and Suffolk County Council’s School Waste Education Officer (Mel Brown) who is situated in Endeavour House, Ipswich, Block 2, Floor 4, Desk 18.
Bags will be available to buy at these outlets for only £1.50

2009 - SCHOOLS RECYCLED SPORTS EVENT
During the Summer Term 2009 seven schools in the County took part in the annual Recycled Sports Event. This fun sport focused event was aimed at helping children understand recycling and composting. A class of pupils from each of the chosen schools competed in 3 races:
The ‘Sort It’ Bean Bag Relay
The Litterpick Run
Get Composted
The teams were scored on correctness of recycling and the time taken to complete races. The timings and scores were then added to our league table and the winning school received a prize for their school grounds.

Sir Robert Hitcham Primary School
St Edmundsbury Catholic Primary School

The winning school was Grundisburgh Primary School - Congratulations to them!
2008 - SCHOOLS CREATIVE CHRISTMAS COMPETITION The 2008 School Waste Education Creative Christmas Competition was a great success. Schools were asked to create Christmas trees and decorations by reusing waste materials to highlight the importance of minimising waste at Christmas.
The competition was open to all key stages and the standard of entries was extremely good, with some really innovative ideas coming from pupils of all ages. The winning entries scored highly on inventiveness of designs, visual impact and reuse of materials.
The winning schools were:
Coldfair Green School, Leiston Wood Hall School, Sudbury Warren Special School, Lowestoft Priory School, Bury St Eds
Prizes, consisting of outdoor equipment for the whole school to use, were delivered to the schools before the end of the autumn term. Other examples of 'Creative Christmas' entries can be seen below:
