Cash injection for voluntary groups to reuse and recycle more waste Last year, Suffolk County Council announced a new fund for voluntary and Not-for-Profit groups to help increase the amount of waste that is reused and recycled in the county. The grants support projects that create employment opportunities, tackle social exclusion, improve skills and create volunteering opportunities for those at risk within the labour market as well as deliver reuse and recycling targets. A total of £600,000 was made available over 3 years. Initially £175,000 for 2008/09 was made available to help meet local, regional and national targets around environmental, employment and social issues. 10 not-for-prfit organisations and charities secured funding in 2008/9 and attended an event on 16th July at Endeavour House to talk about how they will be spending their grant fund and the differences it will make to the environment. Councillor Eddy Alcock, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Waste Management said: "This is an excellent opportunity for creative initiatives to make a difference to the environment and help divert waste from landfill which is expensive and contributes to global warming. It is vital that we all commit to reducing, reusing and recycling more of our waste." The fund is aimed specifically at capital expenditure which includes land, buildings and other structures, equipment and vehicles to enable voluntary and not-for-profit organisations to increase their capacity to reuse and recycle more materials in Suffolk.
