How to Recycle?

How can you recycle?

Kerbside collections

All councils in Suffolk provide alternate week collections for a range of recyclable materials. Some also provide collections for garden waste. See the contacts page for details of collection schemes in your area.

imageBring banks

District/Borough Councils in Suffolk there are over 1000 recycling banks for a wide range of materials including glass, textiles, paper, cans, tins and books. Full details of recycling bank locations can be supplied by your local District/ Borough council or using the bank locator at www.recycle-more.co.uk

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

You can recycle a wide range of materials and bring bulkier items, such as furniture and garden waste to any of the 18 HWRCs throughout Suffolk.

Arranged collections

Collections of bulky waste items can be arranged by contacting your District/Borough Council - there may be a small charge for this service in some areas. Collections of hazardous household waste materials (such as garden chemicals, household cleaning products, DIY products, asbestos and pesticides) can be also be arranged through your District/Borough Council. See kerbside collections for more types of bulky/hazardous waste.

Home composting - is nature’s way of recycling. You could buy a compost bin and make sure that you compost all your organic kitchen and garden waste - or buy a food digester or wormery and compost food waste. Over a third of our household waste is biodegradable and could be composted significantly reducing the amount of waste that we send to landfill. Further information on home composting can be found here.

Other Materials.

If you have other materials which you no longer have use for, but can’t be recycled through one of these council services, there may be other ways of keeping these from landfill. Please look at the A to Z Tips page for ideas and suggestions for dealing with a whole host of items by reducing, reusing or recycling.
