An improved customer experience is at the heart of improvements planned at 3 of Suffok’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in the coming weeks. Felixstowe, Hadleigh and Mildenhall HWRCs will all benefit from better layouts, new containers for glass and paper recycling and a brand new furniture reuse area. Cllr Lisa Chambers, Suffolk County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Waste said “I am particularly pleased to see partnership working with the third sector in action at the HWRCs to reuse furniture. With these opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle more of our waste, we are helping to work towards Creating Suffolk as the Greenest County.” The enhancements mean that waste will be compacted on site without causing delay to customers and also reduce the number of temporary site closures for exchanging full bins. Traffic should also flow better and reduce the amount of time customers will need to spend on site to drop off their items for recycling. Chris Ellis, Operations Director for Waste Recycling Group, who operate the HWRCs on behalf of Suffolk County Council explains “By making it easier for the public to recycle at the HWRCs, we can work together to reduce Suffolk’s reliance on landfill.” Each of the sites will need to close to the public for one day in order to undertake the works; HWRC location Date of closure Felixstowe 25th January 2010 Hadleigh 28th January 2010 Mildenhall 1st February 2010 Click on each site name for a plan of the proposed changes at that site - Felixstowe Hadleigh Mildenhall For more information about HWRCs in the county, visit www.suffolkrecycling.org.uk and follow the ‘local services’ link.
