Disposable period products produce over 200,000 tonnes of waste annually!
Read on to find out the benefits of switching to reusable period products and the different options available.

Why switch?
Make the Switch
The most common three options are washable period pants, pads and liners and menstrual cups. There are many different brands and options available so have a look online to find the ones that suit you best.
Menstrual cups
Similar to tampons, silicone menstrual cups can be inserted into the vagina and worn for up to 12 hours depending on your flow and the brand. When you’re ready to change, simply wash your cup out with soap and water, then it’s ready to reinsert. Between cycles, boil you menstrual cup to disinfect.

Reusable sanitary pads
Like disposable pads, reusable ones come with different absorbances so you can find a pad which best fits your flow. Pads are often made from cotton or bamboo material and fastened to your underwear using poppers providing a softer experience for your intimate area. Once a pad has been saturated, they can be cleaned in your washing machine and then hung to dry ready for reuse.

Period pants and underwear
Why not ditch the pads altogether? Period underwear are like normal pants but with a built in pad. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes and absorbencies to suit your needs. They can generally be worn all day (up to 12 hours) and then can washed with the rest of your laundry. Have a look online at the many brands and options available - and they have lots of top tips on how to wear and how to wash to make them last as long as possible.

Reusable tampon applicators
Disposable tampon applicators are used once but last forever. Why not opt for a reusable one which can last up to 10 years! They work in the same way as regular tampon applicators, you purchase tampons without applicators and simply insert the tampon into the reusable applicator and use as normal. Once used, simply dispose of the tampon in a bin (never flush them), then wash the applicator and put it away for next time.
