Here are a couple of ways in which the Suffolk Waste Partnership are enabling schools to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost their waste:
At School
All schools in Suffolk are entitled to a collection service for recyclable materials. There may be a charge for this service in some areas, so please contact your local borough/ district council trade waste officer for details.
At Recycling Centres
Schools can bring a range of recyclable materials to any Recycling Centres (RCs) in Suffolk. The types of recyclable items that can be accepted at the RC'S are cardboard, metals, wood, paper, plastics, green waste, textiles, motor oil, light bulbs and electronic equipment. Non-recyclable waste will not be accepted at the RCs. More information can be found here.
Before you go to the Recycling Centre:
Let Suffolk County Council know which site you want to visit as well as the quantity and type of items you want to take by emailing waste.management@suffolk.gov.uk
Schools carrying their own waste are now required to register as a Waste Carrier – this is usually free to do and only takes a couple of minutes. You can register on the Environment Agency website.
If you are taking any fluorescent tubes or any other hazardous electrical equipment (check here) you must fill out a consignment note and take it with you to site. You can download the form here.
